I am a recent graduate of Western New England University (Go Golden Bears!) with a B.A. in Secondary Education and English Literature. While I studied to become an English teacher I wrote for the University's newspaper and eventually became an editor. The newspaper helped me realize that I am passionate about writing so I also became a writing tutor. I completed my student teaching at a local high school, where I taught 9th, 10th, and 11th English. Currently, I teach 8th grade at a Middle School in Pittsfield, MA. These experiences have given me the opportunity to work one-on-one with students to sharpen their reading and writing skills as well as the chance to teach multiple classes at different levels.
I decided to become a teacher because I feel as though the opportunity to learn shapes a person's life in the most impactful way. Students who are put down or who achieve at a slower rate are sometimes impacted in a negative way and I wish to be the teacher who lifts students up and makes learning a positive experience. This is also why I love tutoring. Working on an individual level with students opens up an incredible amount possibilities. I enjoy analyzing a student's current level and working to maximize their potential.
I am qualified to tutor ACT English and Reading, SAT Read and Writing, Literature, and Reading. As a high school student I took both standardized tests so I know how they are set up and the best test taking strategies - I have also tutored several family friends in this area. Reading and literature are certainly my specialty as I took 17 undergraduate courses covering various forms of literature from around the world. As a former education student, I have acquired the tools to work with all kinds of learners and strive to meet the needs of all my students.
