Hello! My name is Travis. I have a B.A. in History with a minor in Political Science. For four years, I taught social studies (grades 6–8) just north of Boston. As a teacher, my instruction was focused on ancient history, civics/government, and academic writing. However, many of my students faced a common challenge: they could remember specific details from a unit but struggled to create a coherent timeline, explain the reasons behind events, or transform sources into a clear written response.

My approach centers on helping students “think like historians” in a practical manner: organizing the narrative, understanding cause and effect, and supporting arguments with evidence. Additionally, I offer English instruction to enhance reading comprehension and academic writing. I have extensive experience teaching grade-level subject matter to English language learners, and language support is available as needed.

If you’re looking for a tutor who can help you make sense of history and social studies while improving your writing skills at the same time, please reach out and share what you’re working on. I’m happy to answer any questions you might have.

Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I hold a B.A. in History with a minor in Political Science, where I completed extensive research and analytical writing across multiple academic fields. During my four years teaching 8th-grade government, I helped students build foundational essay skills—thesis development, evidence selection, organization, and revision—across argumentative, analytical, and response-to-text formats. My background in historical research methodology means I understand how to teach students to structure complex arguments clearly and support claims with well-chosen evidence.
Geography

Geography

I hold a B.A. in History with a minor in Political Science, including coursework in world regions, political geography, and international relations. As a middle school social studies teacher (grades 6–8), I taught map skills, spatial thinking, and units on regions, migration, culture, and human–environment interaction that directly support AP Human Geography content. I regularly helped students interpret maps, graphs, and demographic data and apply geographic concepts to current events, which is the core skill set AP Human Geography expects.
Government & Politics

Government & Politics

Bachelor’s degree in History with a strong focus on U.S. government and political science, plus several years teaching middle‑school civics and social studies. I specialize in helping students understand the Constitution, federalism, civil rights and liberties, elections, and how institutions like Congress, the presidency, and the courts actually work in practice. In sessions, I break down dense readings, connect concepts to current events, and coach students through AP‑style multiple-choice and free‑response questions so they can explain and apply ideas, not just memorize facts
United States History

United States History

I hold a B.A. in History with a minor in Political Science, with coursework focused on U.S. domestic policy, government institutions, and political history. For four years, I taught 8th-grade government in Massachusetts public schools, where I helped students understand the structure and function of American government, historical developments in U.S. politics, and connections between past events and current issues. My teaching emphasized critical thinking, primary source analysis, and connecting historical patterns to civic knowledge. I'm comfortable supporting students across middle school, high school, and introductory college-level U.S. history courses.
World History

World History

B.A. in History (minor in Political Science), with deep focus on modern world history and historiography. My senior research project examined the Russo-Japanese War as "World War Zero" and its connections to the global conflicts that followed. I also studied the Opium Wars, the Russian Civil War, the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, and Stalin's rise, which means I can teach the interconnected narratives and cause-and-effect thinking that AP World History requires. I taught middle school social studies for four years, building the skills students need for AP-level work: chronological thinking, primary-source analysis, and thesis-driven writing. I grew up immersed in university-level historical thinking, so I've been learning how historians research and argue since I was young.
