Hi! I'm Anthony! I am a Brandeis University double alumnus with a BA in Music (minor in Computer Science) and a Master’s in Musicology. Since high school, I have always found fulfillment in helping people develop their God-given crafts and creativity. I received my first sample of tutoring during junior year, where I facilitated elementary students' skills with the basic programming language Scratch. Additionally, I spent many hours volunteering for different school events. Consequently, it was a natural progression to continue this type of work when attending college. Therefore, I joined Brandeis's Volunteer Group, Waltham Group, dedicating my services to its subsection General Tutoring (GT). In GT, I tutored math to high school and elementary school students throughout my undergrad.
After graduating undergrad, I returned to Brandeis for my Master’s, where I continued to serve GT while simultaneously tutoring undergrads in Music Theory with Brandeis's BUGS (Brandeis Undergraduate Services) program. Thanks to this work, I garnered extensive experience in methods and mindsets (both as a tutor and for encouraging tutees). It is imperative to be patient and accommodating to different learning styles and paces. Furthermore, I espouse that instructors should anticipate where classes may proceed based on what students say. Then, tutors can use this info to empower their students and hone their strengths (as well as mitigate their weaknesses).
My own mentors often advised me that a crucial aspect of both learning and living is to do one's best. Moreover, one must always endeavor to surpass the person that one was previously, regardless of how seemingly small the steps (in any way, shape, or form). If a person has this mindset, it does not matter what anyone else says or thinks. I see Wyzant as an opportunity to positively influence the minds and development of various people. I want to inform them that someone sees them, cares for them, and will help to encourage them in their skills and their self-esteem.
