Learning a new language is hard — I know from experience, both as someone who learned English as a second language growing up in Pakistan, and as a parent who has worked to keep Urdu part of my children's lives while raising them here in Massachusetts. Learning a new language is hard — I know from experience, both as someone who learned English as a second language growing up in Pakistan, and as a parent who has worked to keep Urdu part of my children's lives while raising them here in Massachusetts. I moved to the U.S. in 2004 with strong grammar and writing skills already in place — but speaking fluently and confidently was a completely different challenge. That gives me an advantage most tutors don't have: I understand firsthand that knowing the rules of a language and feeling confident using it out loud are two very different things.
I bring that personal insight into every session, along with my experience as a substitute teacher working with students of all ages and backgrounds in Massachusetts for over 3 years, as well as years of babysitting experience since moving to the U.S. I also hold a Bachelor's degree in Education and Literature, which gave me a strong foundation in both how students learn and how language works.
Whether I'm working with a young student learning basic reading skills, a teenager preparing for standardized tests, or an adult looking to improve their professional English, I meet them exactly at their own level — no judgment, no rushing.
My approach is patient and encouraging. I believe every student learns differently, so I take time to understand their specific challenges before we dive in. Sessions are structured but flexible — my goal is for the students to leave every lesson feeling more confident than when they arrived.
If you've ever felt held back by a language barrier, whether in writing, speaking, or confidence — I've been there. Let's work on it together.
I work with students on ESL speaking, writing, reading, and grammar for non-native English speakers, as well as general grammar and writing at any level. I also support reading comprehension and elementary school subjects including science and social studies.

Approved Subjects

Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I have supported creative writing development in students from K-8th grade throughout my 3 years as a substitute teacher in Massachusetts. In my daily work with elementary students I regularly encourage creative expression through storytelling, journaling, and imaginative writing exercises. Writing is a personal passion of mine, and having learned English as a second language I bring a unique perspective to helping students find their own creative voice. I take a patient and encouraging approach tailored to each student's individual style.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been a substitute teacher in my Massachusetts hometown for over 3 years, working with students from kindergarten through 6th grade across all subjects, which has given me strong skills in keeping young learners engaged and motivated. I bring a patient and encouraging approach to every session, adapting my teaching style to each child's individual learning needs. My 3-month placement in a 6th grade ELA classroom gave me hands-on experience managing daily instruction and supporting students through a full academic routine. I hold a Bachelor's degree in English Literature, Education, and Psychology from the University of Karachi.
English

English

I have substitute taught English across Massachusetts K-8 classrooms for over three years, covering reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary instruction. I hold a Bachelor's degree in English Literature, Education, and Psychology from the University of Karachi. I bring a patient, adaptable teaching style suited to a wide range of grade levels.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I am a native Urdu speaker who moved to the United States at 24 with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature, Psychology and Education. As a lifelong ESL learner, I was already strong in written English but struggled with conversational fluency due to a lack of confidence, which helps me relate to what many of my students are going through. Twenty-two years and several jobs later, I speak with native-level fluency despite a lingering accent. I've helped many adult ESL learners I know personally build their English fluency, and for the past three years I've been a public school substitute teacher with an emphasis on spoken and written English instruction.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

As a substitute teacher in Massachusetts with over 3 years of classroom experience, I substituted for a 6th grade ELA teacher for 3 to 4 months, consistently teaching essay writing and language arts to the same class. I have also helped students from K-8th grade develop clear, structured essays and strong writing habits. Having learned English as a second language myself, I understand how to guide students through organizing their thoughts and expressing their ideas effectively in writing.
Fiction Writing

Fiction Writing

I have taught fiction and creative writing to students from K-8th grade during my 3 years as a substitute teacher in Massachusetts. During my 3 to 4 month placement in a 6th grade ELA class, I worked with students on all forms of writing including fiction and creative storytelling. I currently support elementary students with writing in my daily substituting as well. Writing is a personal passion of mine, and I tailor each session to spark creativity while building essential writing skills.
Grammar

Grammar

I have taught grammar concepts to K-8 students as a substitute teacher in Massachusetts for over three years. I focus on helping students understand parts of speech, sentence structure, and common usage errors through clear, simple explanations tailored to each student's level.
Literature

Literature

I hold a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from the University of Karachi and have substitute taught English and literature-based lessons across Massachusetts K-8 classrooms for over three years. I enjoy helping students engage with texts through discussion, comprehension strategies, and connecting themes to their own experiences.

Phonics

I've been substitute teaching phonics to young readers in Massachusetts elementary schools for over three years, and I've taught using the Wilson Fundations program, which focuses on letter-sound relationships, blending, and decoding. I like helping kids build a solid foundation for reading, one step at a time.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I have a strong eye for spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and clarity, developed through decades of mastering ESL, my Bachelor's degree in English Literature and years of substitute teaching. I help students revise their writing for clarity and correctness as part of my classroom work, and I am building a proofreading and editing practice on freelance platforms.
Reading

Reading

As a substitute teacher in Massachusetts elementary and middle schools, I have supported students from preschool through 8th grade at a wide range of reading levels for over three years. I focus on building comprehension, fluency, and confidence, especially with students who need extra encouragement. I am currently researching Wilson Reading certification as a way to strengthen my ability to support struggling readers.
Spelling

Spelling

I have worked with K-6 students on spelling skills as part of my substitute teaching role in Massachusetts schools. My approach focuses on phonics patterns, word families, and practical strategies students can apply across their other subjects. I bring a patient, encouraging style that helps students build confidence rather than dread spelling practice.
Urdu

Urdu

I am a native Urdu speaker who grew up in Pakistan and studied Urdu as an academic subject throughout O levels and four years of college. I also enjoy reading fiction and non-fiction Urdu books. This gives me a strong command of grammar, reading, and writing in addition to native fluency. I have a Bachelor's degree in English Literature, Education, and Psychology, and learned English as a second language myself, so I understand what it takes to help someone build real confidence and fluency in a new language. I'm comfortable teaching Urdu at any level, as well as helping with translation and interpretation for everyday documents and conversations.
