General Music

I have been involved in the world of music and music education, since I was a child starting violin lessons at the age of 5 and piano lessons at the age of 8. I studied violin with Fudeko Takahashi and piano with Clara Slater at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School and also participated in their choirs and orchestras and chamber music ensembles. At NEC, I also studied Music Theory, Music History, and Ear Training. I also played violin with what was then known as GBSYO (Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras), and is now known as BYSO, and attended Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music during the summers. At Pomona College, I studied violin and voice, took classes in Music History and the History of Jazz, was Principal Second Violin of the Pomona College Orchestra, and sang in the Pomona College Choir, the Pomona College Glee Club, and the Pomona College Women's Blue and White. I also hold an M.Ed. in Arts in Education from Harvard University. Since college, I have participated in various large and small ensembles, both formal and informal. In San Diego, I sang with the La Jolla Symphony Chorus and helped to found Mosaic, an all-women's a cappella group. In New York, I sang with the Bella Voce Singers and currently sing with the Choral Society at Grace Church. I also have played for the last several years with members of the Bronx Symphony Orchestra in the holiday concerts held at the Bronx Library Center. At the Harvard Graduate School of Education, I sang with the Radcliffe Choral Society, and with the Harmonicas, a newly-founded a cappella group, at the 2010 Commencement ceremony. I also helped organize a database for chamber musicians to find other musicians to have informal sight-reading sessions. At the Bread Loaf School of English, where I earned an M.A. in English, I co-orchestrated/performed a Spoken Word Opera with a spoken word poet, performed on violin and as a singer at various graduation ceremonies, and performed as a violinist in a bluegrass band.
