Hello! My name is Dylan. I graduated from MCLA with a bachelors degree in Philosophy. The path I took to get there, however, was remarkably indirect and ultimately afforded me the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of disciplines. The aforementioned, long and winding path of my education career began with choosing to major in Business, then Psychology, and then - after a year-long hiatus from academics while working as a guitar teacher - I discovered my love of teaching. I returned to college as an Elementary Education major at Fitchburg State University, all the while taking the necessary MTEL exams as required by the state of Massachusetts. In a twist of fate, I made the decision to transfer to MCLA as a Philosophy major before completing the final MTEL teacher certification exam for general curriculum.

I love learning and my favorite way to reinforce new information is teaching the material others. In much the same way that oscillating between reading and writing helps students to become stronger in both areas, learning and teaching are merely two sides of the same coin. I believe that teaching is merely a process of learning with one's students.

I have taken six semesters of Elementary Education college courses (which include Informal Number Theory and Informal Geometry, specifically catered to elementary math lessons) and have completed the Elementary Math MTEL. Though I specialize in Music and Philosophy, these two disciplines are by and large math-based and are invaluable interdisciplinary tools which can serve to broaden and deepen students' understanding of any given material.

Philosophy has been a life-long passion of mine and it also happens to be what my degree is in. I firmly believe philosophy is the backbone of Western society and as a consequence is widely applicable to a broad range of disciplines from Art, to Ethics and Business, as well as social work and research positions.

I excelled in Existentialism during my college career, particularly in Heideggerian philosophy. T
