Hi, I’m Benny! I help high school and college students understand introductory economics, foundational mathematics, and beginner Python through clear, step-by-step explanations.

What sets me apart is that I have real teaching experience. As an Economics Teaching Assistant at Brandeis University, I independently led lectures for undergraduate students and helped explain difficult concepts in a clear and accessible way. That experience taught me how to identify where students get stuck, adjust my explanations, and build understanding with patience and structure.

I earned a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Mathematics from Brandeis University. I tutor introductory microeconomics and macroeconomics, foundational math subjects through Algebra I and Geometry, and beginner Python. In Python, I help students understand core concepts such as variables, conditionals, loops, functions, lists, and basic problem-solving.

My lessons are adapted to each student’s course, goals, and current level of understanding. Before a session, I encourage students to send me the topic, class materials, or practice problems they would like to review. This allows me to prepare in advance and make our lesson time as focused and productive as possible.

I speak both English and Mandarin Chinese fluently and am comfortable working with students from a variety of backgrounds. Whether you are preparing for an exam, catching up in class, or building a stronger foundation, my goal is to create a patient and encouraging environment where you can ask questions, work through problems, and gain confidence.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I earned a minor in Mathematics from Brandeis University and completed college-level quantitative coursework built on a strong foundation in algebra. I am comfortable helping students with equations, inequalities, functions, exponents, factoring, graphing, and word problems. As a university Teaching Assistant, I gained experience breaking challenging material into clear, manageable steps and adapting my explanations to different students. My goal is to help students strengthen both their problem-solving skills and their confidence in Algebra I.
Chinese

Chinese

I was born and raised in China and moved to the United States in sixth grade, giving me extensive experience with both Chinese and English in academic and everyday settings. I am fluent in both Mandarin Chinese and English and can help students with speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and general comprehension. As a former Brandeis Teaching Assistant who independently led undergraduate lectures, I have real classroom experience explaining challenging material clearly and adapting to different learners. I have also studied Spanish and Japanese, which has given me firsthand experience with the challenges of learning a new language and helps me explain Chinese concepts from a language learner’s perspective.
Python

Python

I successfully completed a college-level Python course at Brandeis University and have continued using Python in quantitative coursework and projects. I have helped multiple classmates understand course concepts, work through homework problems, and prepare for exams and finals. As a former Brandeis Economics Teaching Assistant who independently led undergraduate lectures, I have real experience breaking complex material into clear, manageable steps and adapting my explanations to different learners. I can help beginners build confidence with variables, conditionals, loops, functions, lists, dictionaries, debugging, and foundational problem-solving.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I earned an 800 on the SAT Math section and later completed a Mathematics minor at Brandeis University. I have a strong foundation in the algebra, geometry, functions, statistics, and basic trigonometry tested on the SAT. As a former Brandeis Economics Teaching Assistant, I independently led undergraduate lectures and gained experience explaining quantitative concepts in clear, manageable steps. I help students improve both their mathematical understanding and their test-taking accuracy, with particular attention to translating word problems, managing time, and avoiding preventable mistakes.
