I am a Stanford and Harvard trained economics professor teaching at Harvard Kennedy School (previously at Boston College), currently focusing on tutoring and writing a textbook. I pride myself in helping students develop a deep understanding of fundamental economics and statistics concepts, and I have a proven track record for improving students' confidence and grades.

My college-level teaching includes microeconomics at every level (intro up to PhD), principles of macroeconomics, health economics, and game theory. I am also very comfortable tutoring statistics, econometrics, and macroeconomics at any level, as well as applied economics fields like managerial economics, environmental economics, labor economics, behavioral economics, experimental economics, and public economics. I have extensive experience using Stata, SAS, and Excel, and am comfortable with R, SPSS, and jamovi for statistics and econometrics. Finally, I am familiar with both the AP economics and IB economics curricula and am confident tutoring students in high school as well as college and graduate school. I would love to work with you to create an individualized learning plan, help you overcome any obstacles to your learning, and impart some of the joy I find in these subjects.

Whether you are struggling with big-picture concepts or the mathematical details of economic analysis of models, I am more than happy to help. My focus is not on memorization (though some memorization is unavoidable), but on helping students understand the *why* behind economic, mathematical, and statistical techniques and results.

I also play and tutor poker on the side; if you are interested in poker tutoring, my rates are negotiable.

Please contact me here on Wyzant's platform with any questions or to schedule tutoring sessions either in person or online. I hope to meet and work with you soon!

An Absolute Pleasure

Sam is by far one of the most helpful, informative, and accomodating tutors I have ever come across. He has helped me with high-level undergraduate Macro/Microeconomics in a way that no tutor before him has come close to doing. I rarely ever write reviews, but in return for all of the help that I've received, it is absolutely the very least I could do. I highly, highly recommend him to students who strive to do better and could use the extra help.

Extremely knowledgeable and patient

Sam is brilliant at interpreting and explaining difficult micro concepts; especially when the class is less than clear. Lagrangian was never my friend but I am becoming more comfortable with it. Thank you so much!

Best Tutor - Business Statistics and Microeconomics

I am writing to highly recommend Sam as a tutor. Sam has been instrumental in supporting my son through two challenging college courses: Principles of Microeconomics and Business Statistics. Throughout their time working together, Sam has consistently demonstrated exceptional teaching abilities and a deep understanding of these subjects. One of Sam’s most notable qualities is his patience. He ensures that complex topics are broken down into manageable pieces, making the learning process more approachable and less overwhelming for my son. His dedication to helping my son grasp difficult concepts, complete homework assignments, and prepare for midterms has significantly boosted my son’s confidence and academic performance. Moreover, Sam is highly accommodating and flexible with scheduling, always understanding the demands of a college student's timetable. His commitment to being available and adapting to our needs has made coordinating tutoring sessions stress-free and convenient.

Incredibly Helpful

Worked through questions and mathematics for upcoming final exams in labor economics and public finance, including social choice theory, interpreting regression results and models of TANF, EITC and school voucher systems. Felt so much better prepared and more confident for my finals. Comprehensive knowledge base and highly effective tutoring style!

Extremely knowledgable and helpful tutor for Macroeconomics!

Sam helped my son, a BBA candidate, with macroeconomic problems relating to monetary policy, bank balance sheets, the money multiplier, and the quantity theory of money. They have already scheduled their next session for Sam to prepare him for his midterm.
