Hi! My name is Katie/Katherine. I'm a bilingual cartoonists working in and around the Boston area. I obtained my MFA in Visual Narrative at Boston University, (which is just a fancy way of saying comics!) I spent 12 years in Japan from 2012 to 2024, where I first began drawing Japanese manga. I now work in both Japanese manga and English comic creation for my art practice, while continuing to work as an educator, a field which I have had more than 10 years experience in. The subjects I tutor are language and art; specifically, Japanese, English as a second language, drawing (foundational/figure etc.), illustration, watercolor painting, and digital and analog comic and manga (Japanese comic) creation. I am a native English speaker with certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and full fluency in Japanese (JLPT N1 and BJT certification). I have experience working with all ages, from kindergarten to post-secondary/adult education. I am passionate about education. I enjoy sharing with my students both the joys and difficulties of learning a second language, and learning how to express yourself through illustration and comics/manga.
