I love to teach, and I love to see my students succeed in achieving their language goals. Some students want to be able to speak English when they travel. Other students want to enter an undergraduate or graduate program at an English-speaking university. I can help all these students because I have the materials to work with each type of student. My wide range of experience and knowledge ensures that I am able to help all students meet a wide range of goals. Whichever story is yours, I look...

My ESL teaching experience can be divided into teaching in Poland (7 years) and teaching in the United States (3 years). Each location has taught me so much about what students want and need out of an ESL teacher.

In Krakow, Poland, I taught thousands of hours of private 1-1 lessons. I saw how much students would sacrifice financially to have private lessons from a native English speaker. I made sure I had material in my classes that would serve students’ needs. As time went by, I began teaching English in businesses that specialized in areas such as engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and so on. In these business I taught both private lessons and group lessons. I also designed and taught business workshops on negotiating, presenting, writing, networking, etc. I then began teaching English at two universities in Krakow. I taught a lot of writing courses, mostly to Translation Studies students. But I taught courses on speaking, listening, and reading as well. I designed a semester long course on how to help Polish MA students write their MA thesis in English.

In the United States I teach at private language schools. Students come to study English in America for a variety of reasons. I help those who just want to travel or be with their families in the United States. Some students are sent by their companies to improve their English. Many students want to prepare for their studies at American colleges and universities. For one private English school I designed and taught College Preparation

Writing

I have taught and worked on writing skills for many years. I have written two theses for my two masters’ degrees. In 2017 I published in a peer-reviewed journal a paper I researched and wrote. This paper was based on action research I conducted on classes I taught at a Polish university. From 2010-2017 I was the co-owner of a translation agency in Poland. Our agency worked with academics and scholars who needed to be published in English. Most of our clients had written papers in Polish. My job was to ensure that the papers we translated met all the standards of the APA format as well as the formats required by other style guides, e.g. Chicago Manual of Style, the Journal of American Medical Association, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and so on. I have taught academic writing skills in America and Europe. The skills I have taught include the details and requirements necessary for various genres of papers taught in American higher education. I have taught note-taking skills, reading skills, and how to integrate these skills into the papers that many students have to write.
