Hi my name’s Anita! I love working with elementary kids

My name is Anita and I developed a love for teaching when I was about 14. I had migrated from an island called Cape Verde and when I came out here I had the best teachers and educators to look to. In little time I was able yo learn English and that was one of my proudest moments and it made me feel whole and I felt as if I now fit in. I thanked my teachers daily for that blessing and I expressed how much I couldn’t do it without them. Although I was so appreciative I just felt as if I still couldn’t pay them back until I started tutoring young kids as volunteered work and realized this is the perfect way to feel as if I’m giving back and making a change as well.

I have a lot of skills in math. It was always my favorite class as a kid and it wasn’t very usual as all my classmates couldn’t stand it. I can go in depth and make them visualize and make connections to the real world to help understand a little Better. Makes math a little more fun.

English is my best friend. I don’t think I would be who I am without it. I was able to be thought how to write, read, and spell with just little understanding of the language. For me it is a dream come true as small as it sounds. I look forward to reading and writing specifically because at one point I thought I could never do it and I’m here to show these kids they can do whatever they put their minds to.

Growing up on a small island, I had no choice but to be homeschooled. I enjoyed it a lot. I got to be in my own space while still learning and being happy to learn. It wasn’t as expected but perfect in my eyes.
