My name is Suzanne M. I graduated Lesley University. I graduated Lesley University with a Bachelor degree in science. While in college, I had a dual major in Elementary Education/Special Education with a minor in Psychology.

I decided to major in special education because I had a brother who was diagnosed at an early age with the speech impediment as well as learning disabilities. I saw my mother work extremely hard to assist him with all his work, and she never allowed him to give up. He often would have meltdowns when doing his work and felt stupid, but my mother never allowed him to feel that way. She always made sure that he knew he could do the same as everyone else it just might take him longer. My mother was a true inspiration in me becoming a Special Education teacher.

I believe that all children can succeed. I believe that children with disabilities must be taught organizational skills as well as good study skills in order to be successful in school.

I take the time to build a rapport with each of my students. I believe it is necessary to build confidence in the student so they understand, regardless of a disability they are able to complete the work. In my work with dealing with children with disabilities they often think they are stupid. When I was teaching I never allowed the word stupid or special ed to be used because they are just as smart as an honors student, it may just take a little more time to understand the content. All my students feel they are smart and capable.

I would encourage all students to contact me if the need assistance and would be happy to set up a lesson that would fit both our schedules.
