I have a strong background in tutoring to complement a bachelor's degree in Marketing from Boston College and graduate coursework at Clark University. I taught one on one for five years with students aged Kindergarten to adult at Lindamood-Bell, a worldwide learning company, which teaches the power of sensory learning. In addition, I have worked as an in-home tutor for Study Smart in Newton preparing students for SAT and SSAT tests as well as assisting students in math, English, study skills, and organization skills. I formerly tutored at The Fessenden School in West Newton and taught writing, math, and study skills at Weston High School. I currently teach writing at The Carroll School in Lincoln, and I tutor privately in the Needham area. My interests include all sports, especially baseball, and family activities. In my family, we focus on learning and respect as the cornerstones of enjoyment in everything we do.

ADHD

ADHD

I support students by helping them use their ADHD brain in an effective way. I have helped many students with ADHD develop strategies to be independent learners and to use their many strengths to be successful.
Baseball

Baseball

My background in baseball is extensive. From the age of six when I went to my first Red Sox game, I have had a passion for the "Olde Towne Team" and the fundamentals of baseball. I started playing Little League at the age of ten, moving through the ranks to high school ball. My father would hit ground balls to me daily, and school me on the rules and subtle intricacies of the game. Now I have a family and follow daily the news and statistics of baseball.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

I help students manage their academic experience at school. I support students from middle school through college. Time management, organization, and self-advocacy are critical components of success in school, and I support students in developing these important skills.
General Computer

General Computer

I purchased my first computer in 1991 when the PC was becoming more and more popular and dial-up was a great way to get information off the computer. I have a thorough understanding of Microsoft Office and the programs that are connected to it. Working for a major bank in the 1990's and an education provider shortly thereafter provided an extensive training ground for the many different applications that PC's and Macs offer. Now, working on a FiOs powered network, I get the information I need in a fraction of the time it took sixteen years ago.
Grammar

Grammar

From a very early age I learned how important it is to learn and practice good grammar skills. From the moment you begin a conversation, poor grammar skills will stick out like a sore thumb. Good grammar, however, will show that you respect the English language and understand how to communicate.
Proofreading

Proofreading

Proof reading is a skill that must not be overlooked. In the hundreds of essays and reports I have written over the years, I have spent much time re-writing papers because the grammar often doesn't sound the same when you look at it a second or third time. Simple spelling and grammatical mistakes can be fixed, showing a meticulous attention to detail. I feel proof reading is a skill that many see as superfluous, with spell check providing a false sense of security with the click of a mouse.
