About Andrea

I am a reading specialist who focuses on intensive reading and writing intervention with students in Kindergarten, first grade and second grade. I am a former first and second grade classroom teacher as well. In addition, I hold a Special Education degree.

I enjoy watching my students make progress as they learn the reading process. I want my students to feel proud of themselves and feel free to take risks so that they can become independent readers, writers and mathematicians.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I am a certified reading specialist, elementary education and special education teacher. Many students I work with have IEPs and I adapt and modify lessons according to each child's needs and learning styles. I make sure children feel comfortable and confident as they learn new skills.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have had my own first and second grade classrooms for 12 years. I currently work as literacy specialist. I focus primarily on reading and writing throughout the day. I am also interested in tutoring in math.

Phonics

I have been teaching students in Grades Kindergarten through second grade for the past 20 years. I have been trained in a variety of reading and spelling interventions including Project Read, Fundations and Leveled Literacy Intervention. The students I have taught make significant, measurable progress. My goal is to create lifelong readers and learners who are confident.

Good start

My son seemed to enjoy his lesson, and did not realize that a whole hour had passed. We look forward to working with Andrea again and making progress on his reading.
