Academically, I hold both Bachelor’s and Masters’ degrees in Mathematics.
For tutoring, I have taught and tutored high school and college math courses for over twenty years. The students have had a range of personalities and math abilities, including students with special needs.
Since the start of the pandemic, I have tutored more than 1200 students. I also taught Math at the high school level, and was asked to teach Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus during my first year. I continued to teach both the AB and BC versions of AP Calculus for a decade.
A major factor in my success as a tutor/teacher is a keen “reading of students”, and how to quickly engage them. This includes:
• Setting the student comfortable and at ease during introductions and the start of the first session.
• Asking frequent questions of students at an appropriate level to enable them to answer correctly. This confidence building leads to a greater sense of engagement and trust between student and teacher.
