I’ve spent more than twenty years teaching, mentoring, and guiding learners of all ages, and for the past decade I’ve also worked as a semi-professional photographer specializing in portraits, headshots, landscapes, and performance work. I cater my sessions to my clients' needs. My sessions have included itinerary planning for day trips to capture images in locations across the globe, editing tutorials, portfolio reviews, remote guidance on or near location, and on-site workshops (primarily astrophotography). Much of my teaching comes from working closely with teens, families, and young adults as a long-time overnight camp director and educator, where I learned how to explain complex creative and technical ideas in a way that feels clear, simple, and encouraging. Over the years I’ve helped hundreds of students, parents, and professionals grow new skills, build confidence, and produce work they’re genuinely proud of.
As a photography tutor, I focus on helping people create the images they want to make, not just operate the camera. I work with complete beginners through advanced hobbyists, guiding everything from choosing gear and setting up a shot to understanding composition, light, color, and storytelling. I also teach digital development in Lightroom and Photoshop, including how to take a flat or disappointing photo and bring it to life through thoughtful editing. Whether it’s learning to photograph your kids in real moments, improving your travel and landscape images, or building a more consistent creative vision, I teach a step-by-step process that you can use anywhere.
My approach is patient, practical, and highly individualized. Every session starts with your goals, your current skill level, and examples of the photos you want to take. From there, we build a plan that fits your style, your schedule, and the equipment you already have. You’ll finish each lesson with specific techniques to practice and clear improvements you can see immediately in your images.

Photography

I tutor photography as a technical subject, focusing on camera operation, exposure theory (aperture, shutter speed, ISO), depth of field, focus systems, composition, and lighting fundamentals. I have over 10 years of experience teaching these concepts to beginners and intermediate students in structured, one-on-one instructional settings. My lessons follow a sequential, skills-based approach, ensuring students understand core photographic principles before applying them in real-world shooting situations. My goal is to help students build a solid technical foundation and independently evaluate and improve their photographs.
