My name is Vera and I am an incoming freshman at MIT in Computer Science. Given my very recent experience in high school curriculum and great familiarity with AP subjects, I believe I can help students with what they want to achieve. Since I am the first in my family getting education in the US, I had to thoroughly figure out the preparation and application process myself, so I have plenty of self-found tips and strategies to help with your college application. Over the course of high school I have taken 9 AP courses, including self-studied AP Calculus BC during 11th grade. I also completed Linear Algebra College Credit course through WPI, scoring in top 5% of the class. My other academic experience includes Ukrainian state Olympiads in Biology and Physics, being 1st in state in Biology and 8th in state in Physics. Now I am finishing my research in Molecular Biology on characterizing a protein at UMass Medical School, performing computational analysis in MATLAB that this project requires.
My teaching and tutoring experience includes:
- created a coding club in high school, teaching Python and C++ to 11th-graders. Pleased to learn they went from being completely new to programming to confidently taking AP Computer Science the following year.
- created a heavily hands-on coding workshop for middle school students, where I taught Python and basics of Machine Learning.
- informally tutored my classmates and students from parallel classes in topics that included Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Mathematics from 7th grade to 12th grade.
I tailor my methods depending on what the student's goals are.
- Do you want me to help you understand problems your teacher gave you? Sure, will answer all your questions!
- Do you want me to provide you with as many practice problems as possible? I have a huge list of resources, which I actively expand, so you will have plenty of problems specific to your course.
- Or would you like to study the theory and get ahead of your class? We can crush that!
