Hi, I'm Michelle G. I hold a Master of Science in Mathematics Education from the University of Wisconsin and a Bachelor of Science in Pure Mathematics from the University of Illinois. With more than twenty years of experience helping students succeed in math, I have worked in a variety of settings including one-on-one tutoring, small groups, and full classroom instruction.

I began my teaching journey as a mathematics tutor at a local College where I supported students in subjects ranging from Algebra to Calculus III. Later, as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Wisconsin, I managed a team of tutors and taught workshops while helping hundreds of students each semester. I then moved into classroom teaching at a high school, where I taught Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and ACT preparation to high school students. For the past several years I have provided personalized instruction to students from first grade through high school.

My approach focuses on building strong foundational skills while helping students gain confidence and reduce anxiety around mathematics. I tailor every session to the individual student's learning style and needs, whether we're working on basic concepts or advanced topics. I offer online sessions through Zoom. I'm passionate about helping students not just improve their grades but truly understand and enjoy math. I'd love the opportunity to support your child on their math journey.

ACT Math

I have more than 20 years of experience specializing in ACT Math preparation, helping hundreds of students significantly improve their scores through targeted strategies and practice. I am skilled at breaking down all ACT Math topics - including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and data analysis - into clear, manageable concepts aligned with the test’s unique format and timing. My students consistently raise their Math section scores by 4–8 points on average by mastering key techniques like plugging in answers, backsolving, and efficient problem-solving under time pressure. I provide personalized coaching that builds both confidence and accuracy for the ACT Math test.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have more than 20 years of experience tutoring and teaching Algebra 1, guiding middle school and high school students through foundational topics such as linear equations and inequalities, systems of equations, functions, exponents and polynomials, factoring, quadratics, and graphing. I excel at helping students build a strong conceptual understanding of algebraic thinking while addressing common trouble spots like solving equations, word problems, and interpreting graphs. My students regularly improve their grades, gain confidence in math, and perform well on class assessments, state tests, and standardized exams such as the SAT or MCAS. I customize lessons to each student's needs and learning style, using clear explanations, step-by-step problem-solving, and real-world examples to make Algebra 1 concepts accessible and engaging.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have over 20 years of experience tutoring and teaching Algebra 2, helping high school students master challenging topics such as quadratic functions, polynomial equations, rational expressions, exponential and logarithmic functions, sequences and series, conic sections, and matrices. I specialize in breaking down complex concepts into clear, step-by-step explanations while emphasizing the problem-solving and critical thinking skills needed for success in Algebra 2 and future math courses. My students consistently improve their grades, gain confidence in algebraic reasoning, and perform strongly on unit tests, finals, and standardized exams like the SAT and state assessments. I tailor instruction to each student's learning style and pace, using real-world applications to make abstract ideas more relatable and engaging.
Calculus

Calculus

I have more than 20 years of experience tutoring and teaching Calculus, specializing in both AP Calculus AB/BC and college-level Calculus I, II, and III. I guide students through key topics including limits, derivatives, integrals, applications of differentiation and integration, differential equations, series and sequences, multivariable calculus, and vector functions with clear, step-by-step explanations. My approach focuses on building deep conceptual understanding while mastering problem-solving techniques needed for exams, such as the AP Calculus tests, college midterms/finals, and real-world applications. Students consistently improve their grades, boost their confidence, and achieve high scores on standardized exams through personalized instruction tailored to their learning style and pace.
Common Core

Common Core

I have over 20+ years of experience tutoring and teaching Common Core Mathematics from Kindergarten through high school Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2. I specialize in helping students master the rigorous problem-solving, critical thinking, and real-world application standards emphasized in the Common Core. Many of my students have improved their math scores significantly on state assessments and built stronger conceptual understanding through targeted, standards-aligned instruction.
Geometry

Geometry

I have more than 20 years of experience tutoring and teaching Geometry, helping high school students master essential topics including points, lines, and planes, angle relationships, triangles (congruence, similarity, right triangles), quadrilaterals, circles, area and perimeter, surface area and volume of 3D solids, coordinate geometry, transformations, and proofs. I specialize in guiding students through rigorous geometric reasoning, deductive proofs, and visual/spatial problem-solving, which are key to success in Geometry and beyond. My students regularly improve their grades, strengthen their logical thinking skills, and perform confidently on unit tests, finals, state assessments, and standardized exams like the SAT or MCAS. I adapt lessons to each student's learning style, using clear diagrams, real-world applications, and step-by-step explanations to make abstract geometric concepts intuitive and engaging.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have more than 10 years of experience tutoring and teaching Prealgebra, helping middle school students build a solid foundation in essential math skills before advancing to Algebra 1. I specialize in topics such as integers, fractions, decimals, percents, ratios and proportions, order of operations, expressions and equations, basic geometry, data analysis, and word problems. My approach focuses on developing number sense, problem-solving strategies, and confidence in math by breaking down concepts into clear, manageable steps with plenty of practice. Students consistently improve their grades, strengthen their understanding of core concepts, and transition smoothly into Algebra 1 through personalized instruction tailored to their learning style and pace.
