I am a senior at Tufts University majoring in Biology and minoring in Economics, pursuing a career in dentistry. My academic background has provided a strong foundation in biology, general chemistry, and organic chemistry. I completed four months of DAT preparation while balancing coursework and a summer internship in the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. I earned a 500 on the DAT, including a 570 in General Chemistry, a 550 in Biology, and a 530 in Survey of Natural Sciences. This firsthand experience taught me effective study strategies, time management, and how to balance preparation with other commitments.
Teaching and mentoring have been consistent parts of my academic experience since middle school, when I began tutoring classmates and leading study sessions. In high school, I served as a peer mentor and tutor in the Quantitative Resource Center. At Tufts, I have continued developing my teaching skills through mentoring with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts and academic coaching, working one-on-one with high school and college students. These experiences have taught me to communicate concepts clearly and adapt my approach to individual learning needs.
As an academic coach, I worked with students struggling with various science and math subjects. By encouraging them to explain concepts back to me, I helped build their confidence and saw improvements in their grades. I would bring this supportive, individualized approach to DAT tutoring, helping students master challenging science concepts, develop test-taking strategies, and create study plans suited to their goals. My science background, firsthand DAT experience, and tutoring and mentoring experience have prepared me to support students throughout their DAT preparation.
