Salvete! I'm a 23-year-old student at Tufts University getting a master's degree in Classics with a Teacher's Licensure, and I'm currently student-teaching at the Boston Latin Academy.
My Alma Mater is the University of Michigan, where I studied Ancient Greece and Rome in the field as well as in the classroom. I completed an honor's thesis, receiving high honors, which analyzed the grammar and disposition of inscribed sling bullets at an ancient war zone in northern Greece to better understand how they employed weapon embellishment as a form of psychological warfare.
I have 5+ years of experience studying ancient Greek and 4+ years studying Latin at a collegiate level, and enjoy incorporating the fascinating historical background of these languages into my translation practice. I also have experience working with college students with learning disabilities, including those with ADHD, Dyslexia, or ASD.
Learning a language-- especially a dead language like Latin or Ancient Greek-- can be incredibly difficult at times! My goal as a tutor is to assist you in building confidence and fluency in these languages. Students of any level within these languages are welcome. I usually aim to teach students in high school or college, but am open to assisting dedicated middle-schoolers who may be in a Classics-focused program, or perhaps just want to get a head start on the language.
A session with me will usually involve us agreeing upon a particular assignment or passage in Greek or Latin to work on ahead of time, then working our way through it at a pace that works for you. I enjoy colour-coding words and taking notes in the margins, but if this isn't your style, I am happy to find a method that works best for your language retention.
In addition, I am experienced in writing college entrance essays for both undergraduate and graduate programs, and am happy to look over and assist applicants who want a second pair of eyes on their essay.
