I am a communications specialist and help my students to think and communicate clearly and powerfully.

I bring over 20 years of experience as a teacher in the classroom. My work in theater, outdoor education, and multi-media have fine tuned my ability to coach students through the entire process of clarifying their ideas, organizing and researching and then writing in a strong, impactful style.

I have impressive credentials as a 20 year veteran teacher, with Professional licenses in English and Social Studies, a Masters in Education from Harvard and a BA from Vassar College. But what makes me a good writing teacher is my passion to understand my students deeply and use that understanding to help them evolve a relationship with writing that works for them. So, I work simultaneously on product and process. If your student needs help with a particular essay, I can help with that. I can also help them strengthen their grasp of the fundamental building blocks including paragraph and essay structure, grammar and punctuation, organization and style. I can work in fiction, non-fiction, poetry or other formats/genres because I focus on the core principles of good communication.

I have had great success with young writers of many ages, grades and ability levels. Students who struggle with writing or academics in general find me helpful because I am able to translate difficult ideas into simple, actionable steps. Having been an English teacher for many years, I understand the fundamentals that students must master to be successful.

I have also taught gifted students and found success there as well. Often gifted students don’t receive the personalized feedback necessary for them to fully develop their potential. Once you get beyond the basic writing structures, good writers need individualized feedback in order to build on their strengths and develop their weaknesses.
