I am very proud to be a tutor, and my colleagues understand why. This is not a job to me, but a calling. It demands the best I have, and at the end of each and every day, it reminds me of a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, "the reward of a thing well done is to have done it."

I am committed to the well-being of each student whom I tutor. It is important for me to offer them a structured and carefully planned program of challenges and opportunities. It is my goal to offer the guidance, support, and recognition which will encourage these students to explore those opportunities and to master the challenges.

How do I strive to accomplish this? It is imperative for me to be thoroughly proficient in my discipline, intellectually stimulating and academically demanding, and to nurture student growth and independence. I exemplify high moral standards, am patient and encouraging, and have compassion and empathy. I am committed to the life-long quest of learning, and I try to inspire that devotion in my students as well. My background in the subject matter is extensive. I have spent over thirty five years teaching at two independent schools in Fairfield County, Connecticut, one of them known for its specialty in teaching students with various learning differences. In addition, I was a Reader for the College Board for fifteen years, helping to grade the AP Biology Exam. This professional training allows me to serve clients who might otherwise struggle in their quest to learn the subject matter.

Quite simply, I love working with children and young adults, and helping them acquire knowledge, understanding, and a sense of perspective. A major part of my philosophy is to understand that "nobody has everything, but everybody has something." It is my responsibility, then, to help my students find their "something." Being able to do just that is then my special gift to my students.
