Hello! My name is Sam, and I hold a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from UMass Amherst. In the fall I will be completing my final semester of a post-baccalaureate teacher preparation program at Bridgewater State University, where I will be student teaching. I also hold a provisional teaching license and have been actively working as a substitute teacher, primarily at the middle school level, gaining hands-on classroom experience across a variety of subjects and learning needs.
I have extensive experience working with students with disabilities and diverse learning styles. During college, I worked at a residential school for middle school–aged boys with autism, where I provided academic and behavioral support in a highly individualized, one-on-one setting. Since then, I have continued working with students in grades K–8 through substitute teaching, and I am currently a caretaker for a high school–aged student with profound autism. These roles have strengthened my ability to adapt instruction, build trust, and support students academically and emotionally.
My tutoring approach prioritizes one-on-one instruction, strong relationships, and positive reinforcement. I use visual supports, repetition, movement, songs, and multiple modes of learning to help concepts “click” and to keep students engaged and confident. I am especially skilled at breaking down material into manageable steps and creating a calm, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking academic risks. My goal is always to meet students where they are and help them build both skills and confidence.
