About Ethan

My teaching career over the past fourteen years has given me extensive experience in working rigorously, both one-on-one and in classrooms, with students of highly diverse abilities and backgrounds. I hold a PhD from Rutgers University.

I am skilled at mastering new curricula quickly and effectively, and am qualified to tutor students in English, History/Politics and SAT/LSAT preparation, as well as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math through Pre-Calculus.

I am very good at helping students to advance organically, at their own pace and in their own style.

LSAT score: 165 [91st percentile]

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Architecture

I have recently worked in the field of architecture at a Boston-area firm, with skills in programming, drafting, marketing, and other areas; I have also tutored in broad fields, from conceptual to modelmaking. I have completed a drafting course at Boston Architectural College and the architecture track in the Career Discovery summer program (2014) at Harvard School of Design. Highly skilled with conceptual and modeling tasks; also conversant in related philosophical/critical literature.

Political Science

Between 2008 and 2011, and again in Fall 2014, I taught legal studies at Amherst College with an emphasis on political concerns. My doctoral dissertation was half on political science topics, and I am extremely well versed in much related research up to the present. As a teacher at Amherst, I have extensive classroom and one-on-one experience helping students to understand and use these concepts. I am also published in academic journals that produce research on political science topics.
