I have been a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) since 2012. I received my masters in Behavior Analysis in 2012 from Simmons University, and I am currently pursuing my PhD in Applied Behavior Analysis there as well. I have a background in special education. I first worked with deaf blind adolescents at a residential school, helping the students gain independence with daily self-care tasks and leisure skills. When I got my masters degree, I moved to working with children and adults with autism, ADHD, and other developmental and intellectual disabilities in their homes, schools, and clinic settings using a behavioral framework. Currently, I work as a professor at Simmons University, teaching masters-level students in behavior analysis while I work toward my PhD. My research interests include maximizing student learning outcomes using fluency-based and generative instruction methods (basically, how can we teach better so students learn better?).

I am eager to use my skills to teach executive functioning skills, self-management, or anything that you would like to improve on. I take a behavioral approach, meaning I assess student motivation to learn the skill, provide ample practice opportunities, and ensure that the student is acquiring the skill through frequent assessment and data collection. I love to find ways to make learning fun and enjoyable for both the learner and the teacher! I have skills working with young children all the way through adults, so I am happy to help any student!

I also have a particular interest in all things fiber arts, so if you are interested in learning how to knit, crochet, spin, or weave, I'm your gal!

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have over 10 years of experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum. I have worked with children as young as 2 years old to adults as old as 26 years old, with varying degrees of severity on the spectrum (level 3 through level 1). I have helped my clients learn new skills--everything from being able to communicate their wants and needs to being more successful with their everyday relationships, to helping them manage their time and find better organizational methods. I take a behavioral approach to education, meaning I first work with the person to identify their priorities and goals, assess their current skill level, and then build a plan to teach the skill they want to learn, taking meaningful data and assessing along the way to ensure their goals are being met. I use a positive reinforcement approach, meaning students access what they need to show them they are learning the thing they want to learn.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

I have worked for 13 years as a behavior analyst, and in that time worked with a variety of clients who required support in executive function skills. I created programming that taught everything from basic time management to social decision making to self-management skills. I use a behavioral approach to instruction, where I conduct assessment to determine where the learner is with the skill, work with the learner to teach it in a way that works best for them, provide practice opportunities and reinforcement, and collect data to ensure they are meeting their goals.
Needlework

Needlework

I have been a knitter for 20 years, and have knit everything from basic hats and scarves to sweaters, shawls, and afghans. I also crochet (I made myself a dress recently!), spin, and weave on rigid heddle and inkle looms. I dabble in embroidery and cross-stitch. I am skilled at following patterns and can help others interpret them. I have also taught several people how to knit, and a former client on the autism spectrum how to crochet.
Psychology

Psychology

I received my bachelor's degree in Psychology, and have since gone on to get a masters degree in Behavior Analysis, which is often considered a subset of psychology. I am currently working on my PhD in applied behavior analysis.
