Hey all! My name is Matt S., and I am excited to help you in your mathematics journey!
I am a robotics engineer with extensive experience in mathematics, CAD, and communication. I earned my Bachelors degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 2015, followed shortly by my Masters from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2018. Both were in mechanical engineering with a focus on robotics. After that, I went to Washington State for a few years to work in the field, and now I am back in the northeast working at the Broad Institute, a non-profit cancer research firm. I am so happy to be able to use my experience to help others.
It is for this reason that I joined as a tutor on Wyzant. I have extensive experience in teaching. I was part of the Scouting program for around twenty years, during which I spent five summers working at a camp where I taught young Scouts the basics of outdoorsmanship. In college, I was also a math tutor and had many repeat students due to my teaching skills. As an educator, I believe not just in helping students to complete their schoolwork, but in empowering them to do it for themselves. At the end of the day, tutoring is about guiding the student towards knowledge rather than doing their work for them. I do not just explain a concept, but go deeper and explain WHY. If you select me as your tutor, the question you will most often hear during our sessions is "Do you understand this?" because I do not believe I have properly done my job until the answer is "yes."
