With a Master's degree in English and 30 years in the classroom — including Advanced Placement Literature and Language — I bring serious academic credentials to every session. But what my students remember isn't my resume. It's that I made them better thinkers.
I specialize in:

College application essays — I've guided more than 1,000 students from blank page to final draft, helping them find their authentic voice and tell their story compellingly
AP English Literature and Language — deep text analysis, rhetorical strategies, timed writing, and exam preparation
Academic writing and critical reading — from thesis development to close reading across all grade levels
Homeschool families — flexible, personalized instruction that fits your family's rhythm and documents learning for your portfolio

My approach is Socratic — I don't give answers, I ask the right questions until students find them themselves. Parents tell me their kids go from dreading English to actually wanting to do the work. That's the goal every time.
I work with middle school, high school, and college students. Whether your child needs foundational reading support, AP exam prep, or a college essay that gets them noticed — I've done it all, and I love this work.

ESL/ESOL

I hold a Massachusetts teaching license in English and have 30 years of experience working with English language learners across urban classrooms, including students at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of language acquisition. My ESL/ESOL instruction addresses reading comprehension, academic vocabulary development, writing conventions, grammar in context, and oral language fluency, always with attention to the cultural and linguistic backgrounds students bring to the learning experience. I have worked extensively with students who face additional barriers — including limited prior schooling, interrupted literacy, and discrimination within school systems — and I am committed to creating a classroom environment where every learner feels seen and supported. Whether a student needs help navigating everyday English or preparing for academic and professional communication, I bring patience, structure, and genuine investment in their progress.

My instruction covers the full writing process — from thesis development and argumentation to organization, evidence integration, and revision — with a particular strength in teaching students who struggle to find their voice on the page. I have developed original curriculum in academic argumentation and have coached students through personal essays, persuasive writing, literary analysis, and standardized test writing including SAT and AP-level work. Whether a student needs foundational paragraph structure or help crafting a college application essay, I meet them where they are and move them forward.

I have taught canonical works alongside contemporary and multicultural literature, with a strong commitment to helping students see themselves and their world reflected in what they read. Whether a student is working through a challenging novel for class, preparing for an AP Literature exam, or simply trying to learn how to read and discuss a text more deeply, I bring the experience and enthusiasm to meet them where they are.

I am an independent music producer and educator with 30 years of experience in music and education, and I operate Vibe Universal, my own production imprint, where I create original beats and instrumentals across hip-hop, trap, Afrobeats, lo-fi, and other contemporary genres. I have developed and taught original music production curriculum for students with no prior musical background, with a core philosophy that you do not need to know how to read music or play an instrument to create professional-sounding tracks. My instruction covers DAW navigation, beat structure, drum programming, melody and chord selection, sampling, and mixing fundamentals, with a focus on building creative confidence alongside technical skill. I also run Homeschool Beats Academy, an online music production program for homeschool families, which reflects my commitment to making music production education accessible to learners of all ages and backgrounds.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

I hold a Massachusetts teaching license in English and have 30 years of experience developing the reading comprehension and analytical skills that the SAT Reading section demands, including close reading, inference, evidence-based reasoning, and interpreting informational and literary texts. My approach goes beyond test tricks — I build the underlying literacy skills that make students genuinely stronger readers, which pays off not just on the SAT but in college coursework and beyond. I have worked with students across a wide range of starting points, from struggling readers who need foundational support to strong students looking to push their scores into the top percentiles. I am equally comfortable working through passage analysis, vocabulary in context, command of evidence questions, and time management strategies to help students feel confident and prepared on test day.

I hold a Massachusetts teaching license in English and have 30 years of experience teaching the grammar, usage, punctuation, and rhetorical skills that the SAT Writing section tests directly. My instruction goes beyond test prep drills — I teach students to understand why answers are correct, building the underlying language skills that make them stronger writers and editors across all academic contexts. I am equally comfortable working through subject-verb agreement, pronoun case, parallel structure, comma usage, and sentence logic as I am helping students develop the strategic reasoning needed to evaluate word choice, transition, and paragraph organization questions. Whether a student is starting from scratch or fine-tuning to push their score higher, I meet them where they are and give them the tools to perform with confidence on test day.

Confidence growing in English

Marc has been tutoring my son for a few months, and it’s been a wonderful experience. My son has struggled with English (both reading and writing) since first grade. He recently started his freshman year in high school and asked me for extra help in English. Certainly, with an older brother applying to college and hearing many family dinner conversations about the process, he sees the connection between high school grades and the next phase. I wish that I would have discovered Marc and the Wyzant platform earlier, but my son's progress wasn't always clear during middle school and the post-COVID years. However, I believe we are in a better position now. I once worried that my son would not make it through 9th grade honors English, but with Marc's help I am more confident my son will succeed. My son and Marc have been mainly focused on reading concepts so far. Marc has helped our son move beyond surface-level understanding and start looking for deeper meaning in texts. Marc asks thoughtful, guiding questions that lead our son to figure things out on his own rather than just giving answers, helping him become a more independent learner. My son says that he feels more confident now when new texts are presented to him. Marc is very patient, kind, and encouraging, and connects very well with teenagers. Not only has he helped build our son’s self-esteem, but he’s also changed our son's attitude toward English. He used to never enjoy the subject, and it was difficult to get him to focus on assignments. However, I believe that is changing, as my son seems to want to ensure he completes the homework properly for the next tutoring session. I look forward to seeing my son's progress in writing as well as that has also been a challenging area. We’re very grateful for Marc's support and would highly recommend him to other families.
