Hello to the parents of students with autism, social communication disorder, and ADHD. I'm Melody A., a licensed English teacher with four years of experience working with special education students in middle and high school classrooms, including as a one-to-one support teacher. I also have three years of experience working as a writer and managing editor for a business technology publication.

Students with autism, SCD, and ADHD are often underserved by the public school system, and it’s my goal to bridge the instructional gap for your learner in areas including comprehension, literary analysis, and grammar.

Neurodivergent people have unique nervous systems that require an added layer of attention when teaching. I will monitor your learner’s energy, frustration, anxiety, fidgeting, and sensory input to best understand their baseline and their limits. My goal is to push students to give their best effort until we approach their limit, never going past it. As a result, your learner's tolerance for challenging work will steadily increase. I am attuned to the subtle signs that we need to take a break, and I always make sure students know they can take do so to recover their energy before we continue.

Plus, once I get to know your learner, I personally tailor my lessons to their unique profile and suite of interests—even if I have to learn about them myself to make it happen!

Your learner will discover how to develop their ideas, support their arguments with strong evidence, interpret figurative language, organize their writing, interpret sophisticated themes from the complex social dynamics in literature, and much more!

My passion for supporting people with autism, SCD, and ADHD comes from a very personal place. If you hire me to support your learner, you'll have peace of mind knowing that your child’s English tutor “gets it.”
