When I began the college application process during my Sophomore & Junior years of high school, I was daunted by the thought of a standardized test. While my grades were excellent and my extracurriculars plentiful, my first pass at the SAT proved disappointing. And this came as no huge surprise: I have never excelled at test-taking.

In response, I spent a full year practicing in earnest: I took dozens of practice tests, analyzed patterns, and identified strategies. The work paid off. At my second attempt, I managed to improve my score by nearly 300 points and land in the 98th percentile. I firmly believe that my SAT score proved pivotal in my ultimate acceptance to my dream school: the University of Pennsylvania (from which I graduated in 2015 with degrees in biology and English).

I firmly believe that my test-taking struggles actually prove beneficial to tutoring, for I've found that the vast majority of students can relate to my experience. In other words, most students are not naturally good at standardized tests. But I also know from experience that this IS surmountable. Ever since I began tutoring three years ago, I have worked with students to transform the test from a weakness into a strength--a task that I've found enjoyable and rewarding. While I can't guarantee a particular result or outcome, I know that many of my students have been happy with their results: 4 recent students have scored above 1500 (1510, 1530, 1530, and 1550) and another managed a 1460 on their first attempt.

Baseball

I was first introduced to baseball when I was 5 years old and I have loved (and played) the sport ever since. I played little-league and Babe Ruth for as long as I could, but I also started on my varsity high school team as a freshman. I was named MVP my senior year and an All-Star in the Eastern Independent League. While my baseball playing days are largely over, I play in recreational softball leagues during the summer and fall.

Great tutor

Shell helped my son preparing for SAT, he came prepared and work through my son specific problem area. He also showed him which strategies might be most effective, and helped him with his time management while taking the test. I definitely recommend Shell to anyone in need of a tutor.

Great tutor! We covered a lot of material in a shorter amount of time

I did a practice test beforehand and then we went over the answers as well as the why behind why each one was wrong or right. We also went into depth about time management skills as well as how the different sections were organized on the SAT. In terms of specific skills, I know we did some review on a few math concepts like exponential functions/quadratic functions. I liked that we used examples in order to better understand the mathematical concepts

Expert at translating problem solving strategies into suitable language for his students

Shell has been working with my daughter for a few weeks and I have been very impresses. Approachable and good style, very smart, and most critically - he translates the math strategy in his brain into something my teen understands and grabs hold of.
