I have worked with children for many years across a range of ages, and my approach to math tutoring is centered on clear, patient support and building confidence through understanding. My goal is to create a calm, supportive learning environment where questions are welcome and progress feels achievable. I focus on helping students build strong foundations and gradually move from simple ideas to more complex concepts, so challenging problems feel less intimidating. By paying close attention to how each student thinks and learns, I adjust my explanations to meet them where they are, using different approaches when needed.

My educational background includes college-level study in applied mathematics, and my teaching experience is grounded in student-centered learning environments. For over eight years, I worked at the Waldorf School of Lexington, where the curriculum emphasizes developmentally appropriate, experiential learning and engaging, creative explanations rather than memorization alone. During this time, I worked with children across multiple age groups, beginning in early childhood and elementary classrooms as a substitute teacher and assistant, regularly supporting students and leading small groups and class activities. For the past two years, I have combined this broader experience with more focused math assistance at the middle school level, supporting students in grades six through eight through concept explanation, small group work, and one-on-one support.

I tutor elementary math, pre-algebra, and Algebra 1. During sessions, we break problems into manageable steps, review foundational ideas when needed, and explore alternative ways of approaching a concept when it feels confusing at first. While progress still requires practice and effort, my aim is for students to leave each session feeling more capable, supported, and confident in their ability to learn math over time.
