I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude with my B.S. in Neuroscience and Behavior on the Neurobiology track and I work in gene therapy research. Prior to my B.S. I graduated with Highest Honors with my A.S. in Biology. Throughout my education, I found that my success stemmed most from the support of educators and teaching styles that promoted not only knowledge of the subject but self-confidence. As a student who also worked full-time throughout, I understand the pressures of both the real world and the classroom and the need to learn material efficiently. I strive to bring these values to my tutoring sessions.

I have two experience as a peer tutor in STEM in community college in their online tutoring center. I worked with 3-6 students at a time in different subjects including biology, chemistry, genetics, calculus, statistics, physics, and biotechnology. In addition to my tutoring experience, I have a experience as a teaching assistant for biological psychology during the senior year of my B.S. where I led test preparation for groups of 10-15 and assisted with tutoring and lab makeups with 1-2 students at a time. In addition to classroom tutoring, I have mentored and taught laboratory protocols and projects to technicians and students over the past 3 years.

STEM subjects include many complex concepts that are easy to get overwhelmed by. As a tutor, I have focused on helping students find the answers for themselves. I help to break these down into their parts, working with students to understand each part while piecing them back together. When a student is having a hard time with confidence, I have them talk about the question or subject in their own words with and without notes. By rewording it they better learn the subject and gain confidence by realizing they knew it better than they thought they did. I look forward to feedback and input from students and parents so I can better hone my approach and become a more effective tutor.
