Hi! I’m Kayla, a neuroscience PhD candidate at Harvard University with extensive research and teaching experience. I hold dual B.A. degrees in neuroscience and criminology from the University of Pennsylvania, where I graduated summa cum laude with distinction in neuroscience. I have also worked in a neuroscience research laboratory for the past 7 years studying the brain’s hunger circuits and how the brain communicates with the rest of the body!

I developed a strong passion for neuroscience, research, and teaching during my time in college, and I’m excited to share that passion by helping students succeed. I’ve served as a teaching assistant for both introductory neuroscience and neuropsychopharmacology courses at the University of Pennsylvania for four years, as well as for a behavioral neuroscience course at Harvard. I've taught neuroscience at both the college and pre-college levels, and have worked one-on-one with students at all stages of learning.

I offer support in neuroscience and psychology, covering topics from cellular mechanisms to behavior and motivation. In addition to content tutoring, I provide essay coaching, including help with structuring arguments, clarifying complex ideas, and editing for clarity and flow. I also assist with research papers, focusing on scientific writing, proper citation, and synthesizing literature effectively. For those preparing for the next academic step, I offer guidance with college and graduate school applications—including personal statements, scientific communication, and overall application strategy.

My tutoring is grounded in scientific rigor, patience, and empathy. I aim to create a welcoming yet challenging environment in which each student is able progress and truly grasp the material. I’d love to work with you! Feel free to contact me with additional questions or to schedule a lesson.

Great sessions - patient, knowledgeable and understanding tutor

Sessions with Kayla have been invaluable. Her knowledge of neuroscience is broad and deep, and she's been very patient explaining lots of things to me. What I most appreciate is being able to jump from the high level intuitive explanation of things down to the specific details. Kayla also prepared some material specifically for the topics I requested we study, which has been much appreciated and is not common in my experience with tutors in the past, who have tried to shoehorn the sessions into specific curricula. I highly recommend doing sessions with Kayla.

Prepared and very well spoken

Kayla helped me shape my ideas into cohesive wording that elevated my essays. She was efficient with our time and very well spoken which translated well on paper. She engaged with me to help me lead the story but guided me to ensure I was properly interacting and getting to the point. She made me excited to finally have a breakthrough in writing what was important to me without feeling like I was rambling!! I cannot recommend her enough!!

Great help with personal statement

Kayla was great- very approachable and thoughtful with her feedback. She made my rough draft feel a lot more focused and gave me a solid plan for edits. She also explained what colleges look for and made the process way less stressful.

I passed my neuroscience final because of Kayla's help!

I was taking an intensive neuroscience class this summer and I was struggling 2 days before the exam. Kayla was very flexible with her schedule and she fit in a lesson before my exam. She came prepared with materials and a practice exam tailored to my coursework and the session was super helpful. I ended up passing my final exam! She is knowledgeable, patient, and great at breaking down complex topics- would definitely recommend Kayla as a tutor.
