Hello!
My name is Marlee and I’m originally from Miami, Florida. Growing up in Miami, I understood the importance of learning different languages. At the University of Central Florida, I chose to major in Interdisciplinary Studies because it allowed me to take courses in the Education and Spanish majors while minoring in Non-Profit Management. It was at this university that I got my TEFL certification and worked with English-learners at the University through a conversational volunteer hour! This opportunity allowed me to apply the skills I was learning in my certification courses in real life classrooms. I also observed a semester-long ESL class virtually through my Bachelor’s degree in which I participated in group work facilitation. The students in this course were typically ages 30-50. During this time I also worked as a volunteer manager for a local non profit organization’s ESL night classes.
In 2021 I got my M.S. in International and Intercultural Education from Florida International University. I also worked during this time in the university’s Study Abroad office where I worked with the inbound international students who came to study short term at our institution. I worked with the students by hosting various social activities and presenting informational session each semester.
Now I work at an International school where I meet with English learners daily. While I take on a more administrative role in this position, I do teach multiple elective classes (ranging from English Vocabulary Games, Various Topical Vocabulary Courses, and Conversational Culture discussions) every month.
I love working with English learners! I have experience with learners from ages 12-50. I have an intermediate working proficiency in Spanish. I actively practice my Spanish daily, so I completely understand how it feels to learn a language. I appreciate making personalized lessons depending on which skills, topics, and interests you have. I look forward to making our tutoring sessions engaging and applicable!
