I love teaching students to see the world through the lens of physics! As an experienced classroom teacher, I've learned to develop students' reasoning skills to frame problems and apply concepts. I work to spot where a student is faltering and probe surrounding concepts/skills. It matters that students feel motivated and understood by their teacher, and I've worked daily with students in a small group setting who benefit from extra support in things like organizing work, obtaining teacher feedback, and recognizing their progress.
I developed a passion for sharing science, basic and cutting edge, while doing PhD work in physics at Harvard and working with outreach programs. I initially learned to "think like a physicist" as an undergraduate physics and math major and spent summers doing experimental research. I have a sense of adventure and enjoy things like rock climbing and kite surfing. I also have artistic/creative side and enjoy painting and DIY projects around the house.
I have tutored all math levels in an after-school math program designed to prevent isolation and combat tracking that often negatively impacts students of color. I've also worked daily with 9th grade students in a small group setting, responsible for helping them with both their math and physics classes.
I have 6 years of experience teaching 9th grade conceptual physics and 1 year teaching AP Physics C Mechanics and E&M, as well as TA experience for college physics during graduate school. I've enjoyed providing 1 on 1 support to my students after school and seeing how that helps them build confidence and learn with peers in class.
