Hello! I became a teacher in order to help children become successful with their learning. I taught Kindergarten for a year and then switched to second grade for 10 years. I enjoyed hearing children's ideas about a subject, and then seeing their smiles when they began to understand a subject. I want children to experience joy in learning and not frustration. I try to give fun, yet challenging lessons to help children gain confidence and grow as students. I also privately tutored in phonics, writing, reading, math (up to 6h grade), science (up to 8th grade), test taking skills, spelling, and German.
I am certified to teach K-6th grade. I have a masters in curriculum and development which means that I can cater curriculum to each child's needs and learning strengths.
I have been speaking German for 20 years and my family is from Germany. I have a BA in GErman from MSU and a certificate from Goethe Institute in NYC. I studied over in Germany as well. I prefer to work with children, but any age is fine. I can teach German through games and themes, and give work to guide you so that you can learn. I can create lessons to teach you what you would like to learn depending on your level.
I have taught children writing for many years. I enjoy teaching all types of writing to children. Every day we did journal some sort of journal writing. We also went through paragraph writing, writing about your opinion and backing it up with facts, story writing, research writing. We also did language drills in order to teach grammar. Kids could identify mistakes in grammar so that they eventually could become editors in a writing workshop scenario.
