Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I was a math major at Cornell and I have a master's degree from MIT. My score on the math SAT was 796 out of 800. I have tutored a great many children in math, and I believe in looking for the best way to explain a concept to each individual student. This is particularly important in algebra, which can be confusing to a lot of students.
Geometry,

Geometry

I was a math major at Cornell and I have a master's degree from MIT. I've tutored many geometry students in the past year and they have all rated me highly. I scored 796 out of 800 on the math SAT, and I try to find the right method to communicate difficult concepts to each student, depending on his/her particular ability.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I was a math major at Cornell and I scored 796 on the math SAT. I approach SAT as the game that it is -- a contest between the test-maker and the test-taker. Multiple-choice questions are very different from open-ended ones, and require a different approach. I've helped many students achieve high scores. I concentrate on the material that most often appears on the test. I teach strategy, from the right way to structure the essay to the best way to approach multiple-choice questions, and all the little tricks in between.

ACT Math

I was a math major at Cornell, and my experience as a consultant to a game company added to my expertise in taking tests like ACT, which is essentially a game. I can pass on the techniques of answering multiple-choice questions to students who often neglect this factor. Of course, there's nothing that beats knowing the material, and that is the primary focus, but the actual test is a unique experience which the student needs to prepare for in its entirety.

Proper use of time is crucial, and the approach to a multiple-choice question is much different from a normal test question. Very helpful tutor!

Jon helped me remember so many little things that I had forgotten. I'm not as nervous now to take the ACT. I'm looking forward to working with him in the future!

ACT Superscore Raised 6 Points!

We hired Jon primarily as an ACT tutor. Our daughter had 11 ACT lessons with him in less than 6 weeks (she also had a separate lesson with him for some math homework). With Jon’s help, she raised her raw ACT score 5 points, and her superscore 6 points. Jon is extremely good at what he does. He understands the tests, he is able to quickly assess the gaps, and he puts together a plan to find points in all sections of the test. Not only does he know common “tips and tricks,” he is also is a master of all subjects and is able to teach them in a way that is understandable. There is a continuous feedback and learning loop of assessment, teaching, practicing, assessment, teaching, practicing, and so on. The cost we paid for the lessons is minuscule compared to the return we will receive in merit scholarship money because of her scores. We are extremely grateful for the experience with Jon, and plan to have him tutor our other children when they are ready. - Justin, 11 lessons with Jon

Coach worked hard with me to be sure I was well prepared for the SAT test. He did such a great job, I am asking him to help me prepare for another big test as well! Thanks Coach!!!

Willing to help!

My daughter really liked that he is patient and that he gave great feedback. She was a little timid at first but he made her feel comfortable. She is looking forward to her next session. Also Jon is very understanding to the fact that we are so late preparing for the upcoming SAT’s so he has made time to help prepare my daughter in the little time we have. I’m very grateful that he is willing to help.

Patient and flexible

Jon is very patient and flexible. He honestly cares for the student and wants them to excel. I would highly recommend him for ACT practice. Jon assigns work that helps the student practice the skills that need work.

Looks like a good fit

My son enjoyed his first math SAT tutoring session with Jon. He said he “definitely knows his stuff” and my son is confident he will really help him raise his score.
