I'm Hasith! I'm a Cell and Molecular Biology student at UW Madison on the premed track, and I work as an undergraduate researcher in a cancer virology lab at the Morgridge Institute. I've earned A's in college General Chemistry and Introductory Biology, and I'm also a nationally certified EMT. The teachers I learned the most from were the ones who explained why things work instead of telling me what to memorize, and that's the approach I bring to tutoring. In a typical session, I find out what you already understand, talk through the concept out loud, work an example together, and then have you try one on your own and explain it back to me. I adjust that plan based on the subject and what each student needs.
My teaching experience comes from working one on one and in small groups. As an Eagle Scout, I spent years teaching skills to younger scouts in middle school and early high school, and I now help lead a troop as an adult volunteer. I also volunteer every week on the pediatrics unit of a children's hospital here in Madison, which has taught me to be patient and meet people where they are. I tutor chemistry, biology, algebra, prealgebra, and statistics, and since I took many of these classes recently, I remember exactly where students get stuck.
I want every student to leave a session more confident than when they started, so I welcome any notes, assignments, or suggestions from students and parents ahead of time. Feel free to message me with questions or to set up a first lesson!
