My passions include working with individuals on the Autism and ADHD spectrum, literature, and supporting students with behavioral challenges. I’m a triplet, and one of my brothers has autism. Hello, I’m Emma! I graduated from The University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Special Education and English in January 2024. My passions include working with individuals on the Autism and ADHD spectrum, literature, and supporting students with behavioral challenges. I’m a triplet, and one of my brothers has autism. He is one of my greatest inspirations, and the reason why I have strived to be a Special Educator since I was 5 years old.

My senior year of college, I did two semesters of student-teaching as part of my Special Education major. I worked as both a co-teacher and a push-in educator in 8th-grade general education English and History classrooms, as well as tutoring higher-needs students individually and in small groups. In the summer of 2023, I worked part-time as a job coach, during which I helped prepare adults with disabilities for employment.

Writing has always been my forte. In high school, I earned two National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards—a Gold Medal in Short Story and a Silver Medal in Critical Essay. I self-published a young adult novel at 17. At 19, I joined the editorial board of the international literature magazine Beyond Queer Words. In addition to working with students with disabilities, I have a passion for working with students in the LGBTQ+ community. I have over a dozen publications of poetry, opinion pieces, and short fiction in various journals.

I believe that individuality, compassion, and patience are three of the most important qualities of education—especially special education. I understand how frustrating it can be to feel stuck in a particular subject, unit, or assignment. Using my keenness for creativity and individualistic learning, I help students become unstuck. I strive to see my students thrive in success and in confidence. I encourage any resources or suggestions students or parents can provide, and I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to learn with you. Please reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson!

ADHD

I graduated from UMass Amherst with a BA degree in Special Education, and am very knowledgeable in ADHD and autism. During my two semesters of student-teaching at a middle school, I worked with dozens of students with ADHD, both in large and small groups, as well as individually. I myself am diagnosed with ADHD, and I believe that this is a strength in my teaching rather than a weakness, as my personal experience allows me to empathize with and understand students.

He is one of my greatest inspirations.
