Engaging Phonics Fun and Learning with Miss Suzy!

My Name is Miss Suzy! I have been teaching kindergarten in an urban setting for the last 12 years. I love the community we create each year in our classroom to help each child be successful in their own unique way! Last year I had to learn how to teach remotely and while I am glad to be back in the classroom, I miss the amazing successes and personal connections I was able to build online with my young students! Having an opportunity to have to teach in a new way and make learning fun was a challenge at times, but throughout my experience, I was able to find many ways to engage and teach for success with all students! This made me want to continue with tutoring!

I have been teaching reading, writing and phonics to Kindergarten students with and without special needs including autism and ADHD, for the past 10 years, I have learned that making a connection with each student helps build the confidence for success, in reading and writing, as well as all other academic areas. Knowing that young children often need a multisensory approach to learning (hands on, movement) means I have to create new and engaging ways to tutor young children, including interaction on screen and movement songs and actions to promote learning concepts.

I have a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Westfield State University.

I am so excited to meet new learners and get to know their unique learning needs to create lessons for success! I am always willing to find out more about my students interests to create lessons that will engage and help retain new information.
