Hello!

Having taught in the Springfield and Holyoke Public Schools for 16 years, I am experienced in teaching English Language Arts for Grades 3-10. Most of my career has been teaching Reading, Writing, Grammar, Vocabulary and Spelling to middle and high school students. I also have taught the skills necessary to prepare students for the MCAS exam. Outside the formal classroom, I have tutored English for traditional students, ESL and Special Education students at or below grade level.

My goal is to work individually with the student to find their strengths and weaknesses in the subject of English, see how the student understands the task they wish to accomplish and individualize the way to proceed and continue to successfully complete the work at hand. I am very patient and work well with students who have had difficulty in English in the past.

My ability to be successful in ELA: Writing, Grammar, Literature, Spelling, Vocabulary and preparing for statewide testing comes from years of practice and experience teaching these subject matters. I am a Writer by trade with knowledge and experience in writing in all formats. In the classroom, I have been recognized as a Master Teacher, teaching large numbers of students successfully due to the approach that all students learn differently, priding myself in seeking out these differences, finding the strengths of the student, listening to what a student says they can do and working from there. Then, the student and I continue together changing strategies to accommodate the work. I am calm in my demeanor and have worked with many student needs one step at a time.
