Having taught writing and literary skills for 20 years, I believe my job as a tutor/teacher is to breakdown the barriers that are often inborn in school curriculum. Having taught writing and literary skills for 20 years, I believe my job as a tutor/teacher is to breakdown the barriers that are often inborn in school curriculum. This means building bridges using methods that meet your needs so that you can be successful on any assignment. I find helping students in this way very rewarding, as they gradually come to see they are competent students, and even may begin to enjoy reading and writing as a result.
I believe that working with you on an individual basis will allow me to assess your strengths and weakness in writing and reading critically. In the past, I have worked with students on specific school assignments as well as exercises and lessons that are designed to meet individual needs, working to improve efficiency in areas in which need improvement, such as grammar, thesis development, annotation of a text. My master's degree focused on the teaching of writing. As a result, I have many cognitive learning methods I use on students to help them formulate ideas, organize their thoughts, and plan their ideas for writing. This results in a focused, thesis driven essay. I teach grammar as the "Tools in the Toolbox" to students, since they must know the antimony of a sentence before they can write anything. I also teach critical reading skills for literary assignments and SAT prep. I encourage you to contact me so that we can come up with an individual plan of learning that will meet your specific needs as a student.
