I am an educator and historian with many years of experience teaching students in both classroom and one-on-one settings. I hold a master’s degree in history and have spent much of my career helping students build strong reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. My background includes teaching history at Springfield Public Schools from 2017 to 2019 and working as a tutor with Springfield Public Schools from 2016 to 2019, where I supported students with writing, reading comprehension, and academic skills across multiple subjects. Earlier in my career I worked as a GED instructor from 2007 to 2009 and I currently teach GED preparation again, helping adult learners strengthen writing, reading, and social studies skills so they can successfully pass the exam and move forward with their education and careers.

In addition to my classroom teaching, I served as a substitute teacher for Kansas USD 234 from 2008 to 2015, working with students across grade levels and subject areas. I also spent ten years working as a National Park Service ranger from 2005 to 2015, where I regularly taught educational programs to students and the public about history and culture. These experiences strengthened my ability to explain complex topics in engaging and accessible ways. I have also been homeschooling since 2009, teaching literature, writing, history, and critical thinking to students of different ages.

Currently, I also teach writing through PATHFINDER in Palmer, Massachusetts, where I work with students to improve their writing skills and confidence. My teaching approach focuses on meeting students where they are, breaking difficult concepts into manageable steps, and helping learners develop both skills and confidence. I enjoy working with middle school, high school, and adult learners, especially those preparing for the GED or those who need support with writing, history, and reading comprehension.

American History

American History

I have over 12 years of experience teaching history and humanities in both classroom and online settings. I previously taught history at the high school level, including U.S. History, Government, and interdisciplinary humanities courses, and I currently work with students in AP-level and college-prep history instruction. I hold both a bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in History, with specialized study in historical research, historiography, folklore, archaeology, and cultural history. My academic work emphasizes critical analysis, primary source interpretation, historical writing, and connecting historical events to broader political, economic, and social developments. In addition to traditional classroom teaching, I have extensive experience tutoring students individually in essay writing, document analysis, DBQs, LEQs, historical argumentation, and exam preparation. I regularly help students strengthen skills needed for AP U.S. History, including thematic understanding, chronological reasoning, sourcing, contextualization, and interpreting historical evidence. I aim to make history engaging and understandable by helping students connect historical events into larger narratives rather than relying solely on memorization. My teaching style focuses on discussion, critical thinking, and building confidence in both content knowledge and analytical writing.
Archaeology

Archaeology

I hold a Master’s degree in History with specialized training in archaeology and material culture. My work focuses on how archaeological evidence, artifacts, and landscapes help us understand past societies and daily life. I have experience researching historical sites, folklore traditions, and the physical remains of the past, particularly in New England and early American history. In my teaching, I help students think like historians and archaeologists—analyzing evidence, asking questions, and interpreting the past through real-world discoveries.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I am a published author and award-winning journalist recognized by the Missouri School of Journalism, with extensive experience in academic and professional writing. I teach students how to structure clear, persuasive essays, develop strong thesis statements, and support their ideas with evidence. My instruction focuses on building confidence in writing, improving organization, and strengthening critical thinking skills. I work with students on narrative, argumentative, and research essays, helping them communicate their ideas clearly and effectively.
GED

GED

I am an adult education instructor currently teaching GED/HiSET preparation, with experience supporting students across math, reading, writing, and social studies. I hold a Master’s degree in History and bring strong skills in analysis, research, and writing instruction, which directly support GED success—especially in RLA and Social Studies. I specialize in working with non-traditional and returning learners, including those who feel overwhelmed, lack confidence, or have struggled in traditional classroom settings. My approach focuses on breaking concepts down step by step, building confidence, and using practical test strategies to help students successfully pass each section of the GED. I also have experience working with diverse learners, including students with ADHD, and I tailor my instruction to meet each student’s individual needs and learning style.
Social Studies

Social Studies

I am an experienced history and humanities educator with over 12 years of teaching experience working with middle school, high school, homeschool, GED/HiSET, and enrichment students. I have taught a wide range of social studies subjects including U.S. History, World History, Government, Civics, Historical Research, and Historical Writing. I currently teach history courses online and have developed engaging curriculum focused on critical thinking, historical analysis, primary source interpretation, essay writing, and discussion-based learning. My teaching style emphasizes helping students understand historical themes, causes and effects, and connections between events rather than simply memorizing facts. I also hold a master’s degree in History with a focus on Folklore and Archaeology, and I have experience creating immersive and engaging lessons on topics ranging from Ancient Civilizations and Tudor England to modern wars and political movements. In addition to traditional classroom teaching, I have worked with struggling learners, honors students, homeschool students, and students with ADHD or learning differences. My background includes teaching U.S. History, World History, and writing-intensive humanities courses, helping students improve analytical writing, DBQs, document analysis, research papers, and discussion participation. I strive to make history meaningful, engaging, and accessible for all learners.
United States History

United States History

I hold a Master’s degree in History and specialize in United States history, with a focus on early America and the development of the nation. I have experience teaching U.S. history to middle school, high school, and adult learners through classes, tutoring, and homeschool instruction. My lessons emphasize analyzing primary sources, understanding historical context, and connecting past events to the world today. I aim to help students think critically about American history while making the subject engaging and meaningful.
