I am an educator and historian with many years of experience teaching students in both classroom and one-on-one settings. I hold a master’s degree in history and have spent much of my career helping students build strong reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. My background includes teaching history at Springfield Public Schools from 2017 to 2019 and working as a tutor with Springfield Public Schools from 2016 to 2019, where I supported students with writing, reading comprehension, and academic skills across multiple subjects. Earlier in my career I worked as a GED instructor from 2007 to 2009 and I currently teach GED preparation again, helping adult learners strengthen writing, reading, and social studies skills so they can successfully pass the exam and move forward with their education and careers.
In addition to my classroom teaching, I served as a substitute teacher for Kansas USD 234 from 2008 to 2015, working with students across grade levels and subject areas. I also spent ten years working as a National Park Service ranger from 2005 to 2015, where I regularly taught educational programs to students and the public about history and culture. These experiences strengthened my ability to explain complex topics in engaging and accessible ways. I have also been homeschooling since 2009, teaching literature, writing, history, and critical thinking to students of different ages.
Currently, I also teach writing through PATHFINDER in Palmer, Massachusetts, where I work with students to improve their writing skills and confidence. My teaching approach focuses on meeting students where they are, breaking difficult concepts into manageable steps, and helping learners develop both skills and confidence. I enjoy working with middle school, high school, and adult learners, especially those preparing for the GED or those who need support with writing, history, and reading comprehension.
