Hi, I’m Andy. I have a Master's and PhD in US history and literature with over a decade of teaching experience at the college level and a certificate in Inclusive & Equitable Teaching. Some of my favorite things about teaching have been working with students one-on-one when they need extra help or have questions and getting to know them as individuals. I’ve especially enjoyed getting to focus on doing that as a tutor. I have over a year of tutoring experience helping college and high school students with writing, history, and English. I have also worked with students to guide them as they brainstormed, wrote, and edited their college and graduate school application essays.
I know from my experience as a student that teachers and tutors can make the material come alive and create a learning atmosphere that inspires student confidence and success. I make sure that my presentations of new material are always engaging and I go the extra mile to resolve any questions, issues, or concerns students bring me. I am also more than happy to offer moral support and encouragement for students who are feeling unsure of themselves or of their grasp of the material. I am a good listener and enjoy helping students grow and improve their skills as writers and critical thinkers.
