With more than 18 years working as both a writer, and a contributor to mainstream magazines and websites (including Maxim, BusinessWeek, Men's Health and Sports Illustrated), I've mastered just about every type of long- and short-form writing style. As such, I can support novice writers in improving their skills, as well as making their writing more marketable. My teaching background is both unique and practical; as I often led teams of interns on major magazine projects throughout my career, including the widely acclaimed "Best Builders In America" issue that I spearheaded for This Old House (TV and Magazine). I've also mentored dozens of budding writers, as they learn how to edit full-length book manuscripts, pitch articles, and write everything from commercially viable copy, to web content, SEO writing, and creative projects. I have extensive experience dealing with the advertising elements of copywriting, as well as writing for the promotional marketing of large companies, including Weight Watchers International, where I was the manager of copywriting for all English-speaking countries.
I am inspired to share my knowledge and experience with other aspiring and developing writers, because of my own positive experience with tutors and mentors. The best piece of advice I ever got from a writing mentor was to make sure that I didn't pigeon hole myself into one particular subject. Luckily, I took that advice and used it to help me develop the teaching tools I have today. I look forward to sharing my skills and experience with your students.
