Hello! My name is Tate, and I recently graduated cum laude from Harvard University. At Harvard, I double-majored in History and Political Science, earning high departmental honors in Political Science, and minored in Environmental Science. Throughout college, I took dozens of courses that strengthened my skills in a variety of writing styles, including short-form essays, long-form essays, and personal statements.

I am passionate about helping students improve their writing—especially their college application essays—by crafting a cohesive story with a strong argument and a well-constructed narrative. I focus on the flow of ideas, grammar, and sentence structure to help students achieve this. Through tutoring in college essay writing and general writing skills, I aim to help students build confidence and improve their abilities.

In my own educational experience, I’ve found that the most impactful educators are those who adapt their teaching style to the way I learn. I believe it is important for educators to ask questions like, “What is the best way that I can help you?” and “How do you learn best?” These types of questions place the student and their needs at the center of the lesson, ensuring I can support them as effectively as possible.

I have four years of tutoring experience throughout college and incorporate these questions into all my lessons. I work with students of all ages, tutoring them in English, including those for whom English is a second language. I tutor remotely, helping students practice speaking, listening, and writing skills. I’ve assisted students in improving personal statements, résumés, and other college application materials, providing both line edits that target grammar and sentence structure, as well as workshopping ideas to present a stronger narrative.

I look forward to helping students improve their writing—from class papers to college essays. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
