About David

Bio

I'm Dave, and I want to be your tutor! I graduated magna cum laude from Williams College in 2014 and have been tutoring full-time for 7+ years, with over 7500 hours of one-on-one sessions. I first gravitated toward tutoring because of my strong academic background: in high school, I earned straight A's in all academic subjects, and scored 2400 on the SAT and 5's on ten AP exams. In college, I completed a dual major, made the Dean’s list every semester, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa...

In college, I completed a dual major, made the Dean’s list every semester, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society with the top 2% of my graduating class.

I belive that academic aptitude is just the beginning of tutoring excellence - over the last seven years, I’ve prioritized developing approaches to teaching for different learning styles so that I am able to present subject matter in the way that makes most sense for you. I promise to help you feel comfortable and supported in our work together: my sessions are a safe place to make mistakes, and I am always happy to explain in more detail or review prerequisite material you might be a little rusty on. I find this approach gives my students comfort being completely honest with me about their understanding of the material, which is crucial for maximizing our progress.

My specialties are math and science courses, SAT/ACT prep (all sections), and college essays. The majority of my students are in high school/college, but I have experience working with younger students as well. I'm equally comfortable with all ability levels, whether helping struggling students get up to speed or high-achieving students challenge themselves to do even better. I offer sessions online and have worked 100% remotely since before the pandemic, so I'm confident about helping all students thrive in an online learning environment. If you think I might be a good fit for your needs, let’s schedule a free consultation to discuss details! If you know somebody else who might benefit from working with me, encourage them to reach out! I look forward to hearing from you.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I've been tutoring Algebra 2 since I first began working full-time as a tutor in 2016, and it's one of my favorite courses to teach because it is the gateway to higher level math, which gives me an opportunity to make sure students have developed a solid foundation for precalculus and calculus courses to follow. I work with students at all levels of algebra 2, from remedial math to honors courses, and I have dedicated myself to expanding my variety of approaches to presenting algebra 2 material so that I will always be able to explain in a way that makes sense to you. Whether you're working on factoring, graphing, transformations, rational functions, polynomials, exponents, radicals, logarithms, trigonometry, or any other topic from your algebra class, rest assured that the help you need is right here - send me a message now and we can arrange a free consultation to see if I might be a good fit for you!
Calculus

Calculus

I've been tutoring calculus since I first began working full-time as a tutor in 2016, and it's one of my favorite courses to teach because it opens up new problem-solving techniques that make it easier to solve problems you learned to do by other methods in earlier math classes while also preparing you for higher-level courses to come. I work with students at all levels of calculus, from remedial math to AP and college-level courses, and over the last six years I've dedicated myself to expanding my variety of approaches to presenting calculus material so that I will always be able to explain concepts in a way that makes sense to you. Whether you're working on limits, derivative rules (power, product, quotient, chain), implicit differentiation, related rates, derivatives of trig functions, optimization, integrals/antiderivatives, area between curves and volumes of revolution, sequences and series, or any other material from your calculus class, rest assured that the help you need is right here - send me a message now and we can arrange a free consultation to see if I might be a good fit for you!
Chemistry

Chemistry

I've been tutoring chemistry since I first began working full-time as a tutor in 2016, and it's one of my favorite courses to teach because there are so many aspects of how chemistry works that seem counter-intuitive at first but actually make perfect sense and agree with each other in interesting ways once they are explained clearly. I work with students at all levels of chemistry, from introductory to AP and college-level courses, and over the last six years I've dedicated myself to expanding my variety of approaches to presenting chemistry material so that I will always be able to explain concepts in a way that makes sense to you. Whether you're working on atomic structure, balancing equations, stoichiometry, trends on the periodic table, chemical bonding, gas laws, reaction kinetics, equilibrium, acid-base reactions, thermochemistry, or any other material from your chemistry class, rest assured that the help you need is right here - send me a message now and we can arrange a free consultation to see if I might be a good fit for you!
Geometry

Geometry

I've been tutoring Geometry since I first began working full-time as a tutor in 2016, and it's one of my favorite courses to teach because it is a great opportunity to help students learn to solve open-ended problems and be persistent enough to find another way when one approach to a problem doesn't work out. I work with students at all levels of geometry, from remedial math to honors courses, and I have dedicated myself to expanding my variety of approaches to presenting geometry material so that I will always be able to explain in a way that makes sense to you. Whether you're working on proofs, congruence, similarity, triangle theorems, circle theorems, properties of quadrilaterals, coordinate geometry, surface area and volume, right triangles and trigonometry, or any other topic from your geometry class, rest assured that the help you need is right here - send me a message now and we can arrange a free consultation to see if I might be a good fit for you!
Physics

Physics

I've been tutoring physics since I first began working full-time as a tutor in 2016, and it's one of my favorite courses to teach because there are so many aspects of how physics works that seem counter-intuitive at first but actually make perfect sense and agree with each other in interesting ways once they are explained clearly. I work with students at all levels of physics, from introductory to college-level courses, including both mechanics and electricity/magnetism, and over the last six years I've dedicated myself to expanding my variety of approaches to presenting physics material so that I will always be able to explain concepts in a way that makes sense to you. Whether you're working on kinematics, projectile motion, circular motion, Newton's laws, forces and free body diagrams, impulse and momentum, work and energy, torque, waves, electricity, circuits, magnetism, or any other material from your physics class, rest assured that the help you need is right here - send me a message now and we can arrange a free consultation to see if I might be a good fit for you!
Precalculus

Precalculus

I've been tutoring precalculus since I first began working full-time as a tutor in 2016, and it's one of my favorite courses to teach because it's the first exposure many students get to critical higher level math concepts like limits and trigonometry, so it's a great opportunity to help students build firm foundations for calculus next year and college math courses after that. I work with students at all levels of precalculus, from remedial math to honors courses, and over the last six years I've dedicated myself to expanding my variety of approaches to presenting precalculus material so that I will always be able to explain concepts in a way that makes sense to you. Whether you're working on limits, trigonometry, complex numbers, conic sections, vectors, matrices, combinatorics, or any other material from your precalculus class, rest assured that the help you need is right here - send me a message now and we can arrange a free consultation to see if I might be a good fit for you!

5 stars!

David is one of the best tutors I've had. Not only does he make sure you understand the material by keeping you engaged and asking questions, he maximizes the time during the lessons to make sure we can get the most done possible. If you give him questions in advance, it is super beneficial because he can go into it immediately, have examples ready and sources for more explanations but in a pinch you can give him material during the lesson and how quickly he can start teaching it really shows his knowledge in this subject. I tried many physics tutors on this app and he is by far the best.

Thanks so much for your kind words Mason! It was a pleasure to work with you.

Excellent and patient tutor

My daughter arrived home late and so our first meeting with David was abbreviated (she had another meeting after that) but she made an instant connection with him. I was equally impressed; he called me first and followed up to go over exactly what she needed. We look forward to working with him.
