Hi there! I'd love to help you with reaching your goals, whether that's crafting your application essay for college, or learning Chemistry.

College admissions have grown increasingly competitive. This means that the personal statement could be the deciding factor of who 'stands out'. While this can be scary, it's also a great opportunity to speak your voice in a way that reflects what you really want to say, in the way you want to say it.

It's a chance for you to write something authentic that you can look back on with pride. Let's work together to make this happen. Only you have your voice. And *that* is what matters. That is what stands out.

I have professionally helped students with their admission essays for several years. I will provide a patient and thorough review of your work with detailed feedback and guidance to encourage self-expression that makes an impression. Let's have conversations that help you gain a clearer vision of what you want to convey, and let's drill drafts to achieve that deliverable.

No one student is the same, so one-size-fits-all approaches do not work. I focus on an individual student's learning style in order to convey the material in a style best suited to them. I will explain concepts in a graspable manner and outline strategies to tackle the given tasks in a systematic and efficient way. Leveraging practice problems and follow-ups strengthen the process. With the right approach and positive encouragement, a student can begin to master the understanding of a subject.

I hold degrees in Chemical Engineering and Political Science. I am well-versed in STEM subjects including chemistry and a range of mathematics. I also have a solid background in government and history-related studies. I have worked as an elementary school classroom assistant, a language-program instructor, and a 1-on-1 tutor with students of various ages. My work also includes assisting individuals with their resumes/cover letters for job applications.

I hope to have the opportunity to work with you!

I was a classroom assistant/tutor for two years working with third grade students on math, reading, writing and other assignments. I worked with students individually and in groups to help them with their academic studies and had to adapt my teaching style for each student so that the student gained the most out of our sessions. I am very comfortable with K-6 learning material and am confidant I can tutor these lessons to students. When I was still in school, I volunteered at a local KUMON grading students' math worksheets and providing assistance to students. I have also helped a student throughout his elementary schooling process, and weekly work with a 5th grader on her homework (mostly math-related).

History

Social Studies,

Social Studies

I gained a degree in Political Science. Many of my classes were focused on history, such as World and European History, current events, and writing research papers. I also had to take extensive notes for a variety of classes, and I am aware through my own experience that note taking is a skill that is difficult to hone but common for social studies, and it is something I have perfected over the years.

College Counseling

I have helped individuals with their application essays for over seven years. I worked for a university Career Services department, assisting hundreds of students with their personal statements and statements of interest for college, graduate programs, including PhD programs, law school, and medical school, as well as resumes and letters of intent for job applications and internship opportunities. I have continued as a freelance editor and have worked with applicants on undergraduate and post-graduate application essays who have gone on to Stanford, Tufts, medical school, art school, nurse practitioner program, and more. I offer constructive criticism on every aspect of an essay, from the grammar and syntax to content. Every piece of work is a piece of art, and the idea is to refine it to best reflect the writer's story in their most meaningful, poignant, and powerful voice so that the admissions counselors will read an essay they will remember. It's about truly and genuinely expressing one's own self in a way that stands true to the author.

Great Teacher

Shalini has really been able to help me better understand AP Chemistry. She takes the time to walk me through the problems I might not understand and even provides me with additional practice problems to make sure I understand them. She is also great at making analogies which help explain the key concepts and principles of the unit. Overall, I would definitely recommend Shalini to a friend because I found her super helpful!

Great Tutor

Shalini has been tutoring may daughter in chemistry for a few weeks now and it is going well. She easily built a rapport with my daughter and with me as her mom. She is very flexible with her schedule which is so helpful as we are a busy family. She is also easily reachable by email or text and very responsive. Shalini provides my daughter with the additional practice she needs to really master the particular skill the class is working on which builds her confidence. Shalini is very patient and explains the information in simple terms which are easily understandable. She even took the time to extend her session with older my daughter to work with my younger son on his math which was an unplanned request. We look forward to continuing to work with Shalini.

Goes the extra mile!

Shalini has been tutoring my son in French for the past 8 months. She has helped him prepare for exams, create study routines to help him improve, and given lots of opportunity for practice. She has even followed up by assigning homework and sending extra assignments by email. When he gets his tests and quizzes back she thoroughly points out his success and helps him understand his errors. She is very reliable and there to answer any questions or concerns you have. She has been very helpful to my son.
