Hello, I'm Jim! I lived for a year in Colombia, South America, where I became first fluent in Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking). I then graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Spanish from McGill University in Montreal. Hello, I'm Jim! I lived for a year in Colombia, South America, where I became first fluent in Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking). I then graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Spanish from McGill University in Montreal. I also graduated with an MBA with a focus on International Marketing from Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts. I have had a long and successful career with a variety of global companies in the high-tech industry. I am now interested in using my educational background and work experience (BA in Spanish, fluency in Spanish, and hands-on business experience) to provide tutoring to students looking to augment their in-school studies in Spanish.

I have a patient and engaging personality, and get satisfaction from seeing students progress in their mastery of Spanish. I focus on all areas: reading, writing, and speaking, and can work with your level of experience with Spanish, from beginner to advanced.

I believe that my combination of Spanish language expertise and hands-on, real world business experience utilizing my Spanish skills make me an excellent tutor. I love the ability to provide focused, one-on-one teaching to students of all levels.

I first became fluent in Spanish by spending a year as an exchange student in Bogota, Colombia. I then completed a BA in Hispanic Studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. My 40 years of work experience began in sales support in the international division of a leading company in the pre-press industry, and I subsequently moved into product management at various global high-tech companies. I have been able to utilize my fluency in Spanish through my career, as the customers for the products that I managed have spanned the globe, including Latin America and Spain. Some examples include: • Providing product training – in Spanish – for editorial personnel at El País, the leading newspaper in Spain; El Universal, the leading newspaper in Venezuela; and other international publications. • Providing product training – in Spanish – for identification systems personnel at Polaroid Corporation in Mexico. • Performing product demonstrations – in Spanish – for e-commerce personnel at El Corte Inglés in Spain, the largest department store group in Europe and ranking third worldwide. I have found training in Spanish in a variety of industry solutions to be a very rewarding experience, and am interested in applying my skills in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish to tutoring students in need.
