I've always enjoyed helping others learn! My first tutoring experience was in Kindergarten - I can vividly remember helping another student learn to read! Throughout my school years, friends who were struggling would ask for help, or ask me to proofread writing assignments. I considered teaching as a profession but took another path, majoring in TV, Radio, and Film Management in Syracuse University's communications program.

As a high school student, I participated in an afterschool program teaching Spanish to Kindergarten and second-grade students. I loved seeing their excitement when they were able to speak another language!
In college I tutored students in math and science for four years, along with setup of personal computers, teaching the basics of Microsoft Word and Excel. In my professional life, I trained support staff for a multilevel marketing company, creating documentation and training videos for our onboarding program. I led trainings both online and in-person for a global team, including foreign employees with language challenges. Between the tutoring and corporate training, I was able to employ a range of strategies to connect with different ages and backgrounds. I'm an extremely patient person and I won't give up until I see that bulb light up over someone's head!
I have two children, ages 11 and 14. During COVID I was a full-time homeschool teacher and enjoyed learning the common core curriculum along with them. I've helped other parents understand the modern approach, which is actually how I've always done math in my head. I like how it encourages learning several different methods to solve problems, so that students can find what clicks with them! This matches my tutoring style of helping others learn to figure things out rather than just giving them the answers.
While I don't have any certifications in teaching, I have plenty of personal and professional experience in a wide range of subjects. I look forward to helping your student shine!
